PROMISING young Peebles rugby player Matthew Thomson gave Scotland a World Cup send-off.

Although Gregor Townsend's team were disappointingly beaten in their opening game against the Irish, they have a chance to bounce back against Samoa on Monday.

In their final warm-up game against Georgia at Murrayfield, Matthew walked out with wing-forward Jamie Ritchie.

The primary seven pupil at Priorsford, who is a member of the town's Pipe Band, was selected by Peebles Piranhas for mascot duty.

Matthew was accompanied to Murrayfield by his mum and dad, Tracey and Patrick, as well as brother James.
