PROMISING Peebles driver Robbie Dalgleish took the chequered flag at the weekend to become the 2019 SMRC Mini Cooper Scottish champion.

And even more titles could be coming back to the Royal Burgh as Robbie is also leading the UK series going into the final races later this month.

With two events to go in the coveted Sunoco 240 Challenge, with the winner being given a place on the starting grid at Daytona, Robbie has also moved into pole position,

Last weekend's win at Knockhill comes hot on the heels of a victory and third place at Donnington the previous week.

Robbie, who drives out of the JRD Motors Garage in Peebles and is sponsored by local company Evolution Bottling and Packaging Solutions, is now only a handful of races away for achieving the unthinkable and claiming a clean sweep.

But he faces a tough five-way fight to claim the cross-championship Sunoco 240 Challenge.

With drivers from across multiple class championships several pro drivers can pass the Peebles driver going into the final races.

But further success at Snetterton could keep Robbie ahead of Toby Goodman, Kelvin Fletcher, James Gornall and long-time series leader Cian Carey.

A spokesman told us: "Whatever the outcome, it has been another brilliant battle across a number of race championships, proving those at the top of the Sunoco Challenges really do have to earn their success."
