Peebles 21

GHK 15

PEEBLES managed to see off Glasgow High Kelvinside in an entertaining game at The Gytes on Saturday.

The home side started brightly with good attacking moves.

But it was GHK who got on the board first on 10 minutes.

Ben Hutton darted down the right side of the pitch and crossed the line.

Jack Cuthbert’s conversion attempt drifted just wide.

But The Pees responded well when Ross Thomson found a large gap in the visitors' defence.

He managed to score beneath the posts. Greg Raeburn stepped up and converted to make the score 7-5 with 15 on the clock,

Both sides managed to create good opportunities with the ball during the first half.

But it was the visitors who scored next.

Jack Cuthbert forced through a gap and had the strength to get over for GHK’s second score. He also added the conversion.

However just before the half time interval Peebles hit back

Centre Murray Brown ran 80 or so metres to score under the GHK posts.

Raeburn again added the extras.

The second half started scrappily.

But GHK edged into the lead when Jack Cuthbert kicked over a penalty.

From a following line out deep in the visitors' 22, Peebles bossed possession and they had the momentum.

GHK did well to hold out the initial drives, but eventually the defenders were drawn in and Keiran Brown managed to score in the corner.

Raeburn also scored the conversion taking the score to 21-15.

There was still just short of half an hour to go.

Both sides appeared to recover their first half rhythm, creating good chances.

However, Peebles managed to see the game out, in what was a good advert for National Division Two rugby.

On Saturday, The Pees will head down to Galloway for their league fixture against Newton Stewart.
