NEXT weekend Parkrun in Peebles will celebrate its first birthday.

And to celebrate the success of the 52 weeks of running, jogging and walking around Haylodge Park, there will be treats waiting at the finishing line as well as warm-down party at Peebles Golf Club.

Haylodge Parkrun event director Martin Kelso told us: "Every weekend over 250,000 people run, walk, jog or volunteer at a parkrun.

"It’s community based, supportive and free.

"It’s open to children, as long as they are with an adult, and you can bring a dog if its on a short lead.

"You register once, print out your barcode and you’re good to go."

The Haylodge Parkrun was the 43rd parkrun to be staged in Scotland - there are now over 50.

Since parkrun burst away from the Peebles starting line last November, more than 1,300 runners, joggers and walkers have taken part.

There has also been around 120 volunteers giving up a few hours on Saturday mornings to help make the Haylodge event such a success.

Next Saturday's (November 2) first anniversary run starts at 9.30am with a first-timers brief taking place at 9.20am.

Martin added: "Everyone's welcome to come and see what it's all about on November 2 or any Saturday morning at this free, welcoming, volunteer run community event."
