GALA'S senior women's team enjoyed a silver lining at Saturday's rain-soaked East District Cross Country League.

In the Broxburn mud, the Harriers ladies chased Edinburgh AC home to claim the second spot on the podium.

Sara Green and Kirstin Maxwell led home the green-and-white charge in eighth and ninth, respectively.

They were followed across the finishing line by Lizzie Mcleish in 19th and Katie Barden in 29th.

Moorfoot teenager Beth Hobbs finished seventh in the same race - claiming first junior home.

First Borders athlete home in the men's race was Gala Harrier Lewis Tharme in 33rd out of the 257 finishers.

In the Under15s/Under 17s combined race Gala's Isla Paterson crossed the finishing line in second behind Isla Calvert from Livingston.

Team Borders finished third in the Boys Under 15s race with Euan Christie in third, Cameron Rankine in 20th and Archie Hendry 26th.

There was an individual fourth place for Zico Field in the Under 13 Boys race.

And Team Borders finished third in the Under 13s Girls race with Elena Lee in 13th, Abbie little in 15th and Gracie Linton in 20th.

Best Borders finishers in the Under 11s races were Kirsty Rankine in fourth in the Girls race and 17th-placed Archie Dalgliesh in the Boys.
