GALA Fairydean Rovers took advantage of Saturday's wild weather to storm into contention for Division C promotion with a dramatic cross-border win.

Gala's game at Highfields United was one of just three to survive the weekend weather in the Border Amateur League, and the Braw Lads returned from Berwick-upon-Tweed with a 5-4 win.

Fairydean Rovers looked set for a defeat at half time as they trailed 3-1, with Lee Dodd notching a hat-trick for United.

But the visitors started the second half well and pulled themselves level as a Josh Lamb's cross squirmed into the net and Brem Kirk produced a tidy finish.

Both teams pushed for a winner and it appeared Highfields had got it when Kevin France put them 4-3 ahead.

However, Gala came back once more. Robert Young's corner found Sean Curran to equalise, and then in the closing minutes Sean Reid set up Kirk to calmly round the keeper and win the game.

The victory was Fairydean Rovers' third in a row and leaves the Netherdale men second in Division C.

In Division B, Duns also moved into second place as they thrashed Leithen Rovers 10-0.

Dougie Brydon claimed four, Luke Strangeways two and Ciaran Ellison, Sean Spoor, Sean Robertson and Kieran Swinney a goal each.

And Berwick Colts were delighted their game at Coldstream beat the weather as the Northumberland side won their first Division B game of the season.

Bottom side Berwick, who featured former Coldstream player Aaron Punton for his debut, went ahead through Jamie Robertson and Jamie Heath before Stevie Waugh pulled a goal from the penalty spot.

But the Colts hung on for a vital 2-1 win which keeps alive their survival hopes.
