WEST Linton's Chris O'Hare and Berwickshire's Guy Learmonth have been confirmed as members of Team GB for the forthcoming World Championships in London.

O'Hare who won the British Championships earlier this month will be joined on the 1500 metres starting line by fellow Scots Josh Kerr and Jake Wightman.

Chris will spend the next fortnight enjoying altitude training before joining up with Team GB.

Learmonth, who finished second at the Championships in Birmingham, lines up with Giles Ingram and Kyle Langford for the 800 metres.

The 25-year-old admits it has been a roller-coaster season ahead of being selected.

After suffering a back injury in the days leading up to the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Learmonth's summer season has looked in jeopardy.

And a reoccurance of the same injury just a fortnight before the British Championships threw all of his preparations out of the window.

Guy said: "I was distraught when I hurt my back for a second time.

"It was just two weeks before the trials but my coach, Henry Gray, pulled me aside and told me not to panic.

"We sorted out physio and I switched from running to cycling when I was getting treatment.

"I only ran three times in the fortnight leading up to the British Championships and the enforced recovery worked.

"I felt like I had a new back."

Learmonth finished second behind Ingram at the British Championships, which doubled as the Team GB trials, but still required the qualifying standard of 1.46.00 to guarantee a place for next month's World Championships.

And he managed to set a new personal best on Sunday with a time of 1.45.77 to finish tenth in the Anniversary Games.

Guy added: "I felt so comfortable in the Anniversary Games race and still did a new PB.

"I feel I can push on from here and run even faster as the World Championships."

Learmonth will race in Italy next Tuesday evening before joining O'Hare at the Team GB holding camp in Paris.

Guy and Chris are part of a record 13-strong contingent of Scots competing at the World Championships.

Rodger Harkins, performance director with Scottish Athletics, said: "First of all let me firmly congratulate the athletes, their families, their coaches and the clubs involved in their development on selection for a World Champs.

"We should never be under the impression that selection for a British team at this level comes lightly. It comes after many years of hard work and dedication, sacrifice by athletes and families, and strong commitment, guidance and experience from coaches.

"Looking through those selected, I can see examples of that in each and every one of those 13 Scottish names."

The heats of the 800 metres at the Olympic Stadium in London take place on Saturday, August 5.

The semi-finals are the following evening with the final scheduled for Tuesday, August 8.

The 1500 metres heats will be run on the evening of Thursday, August 10, with the semi-finals on the Friday and the final on the Sunday.
