Vale of Leithen 1

AN improved performance from Vale of Leithen saw them leave Peffermill with a point on Saturday.

But manager Chris Anderson was ruing several missed chances which could have seen his team take a valuable victory.

Anderson said: "We played really well and on another day could have taken a few more goals.

"A draw isn't a bad result against Edinburgh University but I thought we did enough to edge the game."

Vale unveiled new loan-signing Dachi Khutsishvili ahead of kick off.

The 24-year-old from Spartans has a decent pedigree having played at both Elgin City and Forres Mechanics.

And he showed some decent early touches to inspire the Vale faithful.

Sean Stewart was also proving a handful as the visitors were on the offensive for much of the first half.

And the Uni goal was regularly under pressure with one shot coming back off the post.

But if you don't take chances in the Lowland League you often get punished - and on 35 minutes Jack Guthrie fired Uni in front with their first real opportunity.

Anderson's team drew level just after the interval.

Stewart raced into the area and expertly chipped the outrushing keeper.

As the second half wore on both teams threw players forward, but neither side was able to find the net again.

With Khutsishvili arriving at Victoria Park from Spartans, former top scorer Jay Stevens has gone the other way on a permanent deal at Ainslie Park.

Anderson added: "As well as Dachi, we will have another couple of players coming from Spartans by the end of the year on season-long loan deals.

"The deal makes good sense for us and I wish Jay all th ebest at his new club."
