PEEBLES pushed themselves up the table with another convincing win in the West.

And what a start.

The Gytes men raced into a five point lead inside the opening 10 seconds.

Scrum half David Wills ran past several flat-footed defenders from the off to score in the right-hand corner.

The lead was never to be relinquished although the hosts almost got on level terms from an interception.

But good covering defence and a penalty from a resultant scrum allowed Peebles to clear.

GHK did reduce the deficit when Danny Campbell landed a penalty.

With only one place separating the teams in the table ahead of kick off, it was always going to be tight.

From GHK pressure Roddy Guiney managed an excellent line-out steal to set Wills and Donald Anderson on their way.

The ball was fed to Calum Anderson who managed to release Murray Brown in for a second try.

It was a great team effort to push Peebles 10-3 in front.

GHK continued to run on the angles and present problems for the Peebles defence.

But it was Peebles who again went close with David Anderson bursting through the middle before being brought down inside the 22.

Just before the interval Peebles were camped inside the home 22 but a loose lineout led to the home team breaking and the ever-dangerous Danny Campbell swooped to sprint in for a try.

The missed conversion left Peebles 10-8 in front as the teams turned round.

A penalty from Greg Raeburn seven minutes into the second half stretched the advantage.

And Peebles began to take control with powerful drives and incisive breaks from the backs.

Guiney added to the visiting try count on the hour as he intercepted a pass between the half backs.

Raeburn made it 20-8 with the conversion.

GHK responded with some yard-making forward drives which eventually led to a push over try out wide.

The conversion came back off the post to leave the score at 20-13.

Peebles continued to play open rugby and with five minutes remaining they were rewarded with the bonus point try.

Callum Anderson collected to race over.

Raeburn added the kick to make the final score 27-13.

It was a good afternoon's work by the Gytes Men.

And hopefully the good form will continue tomorrow when Whitecraigs are the visitors to The Gytes.

Kick off is at 3pm.
