A TEENAGE Borders filmcrew has released a political flick on next month’s independence referendum.

Corin Anderson, Robert Scott and Christina Hendry’s three minute short features youths aged 16-26 from Kelso, Peebles and Jedburgh speaking out about why they want to vote yes on September 18.

So far the speaking heads video has not gone viral but has garnered nearly 1,000 views.

Though created by a pro Yes group, the team behind the film hope that it is enjoyed by everyone, no matter what their opinion on the historic vote about whether Scotland remains part of the UK.

This referendum is different to any past UK vote with the age limit being lowered to 16, allowing those who will be 16 and 17 on the 18th of September to go to the ballot box.

The film’s director, Christina Hendry, 19 said: “We feel that young people are often stigmatised as having no interest in current affairs or political campaigns and we hope that this film shows otherwise.

“It was produced by three young people with the equipment they had at hand and includes young people stating why they are voting Yes - showing that they’ve clearly thought about it themselves and researched the reasons for independence.” Sound recordist 17-year-old Corin Anderson, said: “As there’s just a month to go until the big vote, more and more people are starting to think about what way they are voting.

“We hope this film encourages young people to think about what independence could mean for them, and the passion portrayed helps people realise this is about them and their futures.

“It might encourage them to do some research into both sides of the debate if they haven’t already done so.” With Robert Scott, 16, who was behind the camera, adding, “We felt it was time that we as young people did something to express our views!” The film can be found on the Scottish Borders Youth For Yes Facebook page and YouTube channel.
