TWO aspiring cooks from Peebles are hoping to turn up the heat tomorrow when they compete at the young chef finals.
Kaitlyn Blair and Freddie Watts have fried, baked and seasoned their way through the Peebles and Borders rounds of the Rotary Club Youth Chef competition.
And this weekend they will put on their aprons to go up against other regional winners in the Inter-District final at the West Lothian College in Livingston.
Carol McKay from Peebles High School told us: "Both Freddie and Kaitlyn did exceptionally well to progress from the Borders heat in Kelso.
"Everyone at the school wishes them well."
Kaitlyn, 15, and Freddie, 14, also had to win the Peebles competition before beating off the best of the Borders to reach Livingston.
At tomorrow's final, third-year pupil Freddie will dish up seared scallops with black pudding and pea puree, followed by Gressingham duck served with pineapple and red pepper chutney, and his menu will be completed by banana and rum tartar with white chocolate ice cream.
Kaitlyn, who is in year four, will serve pan-friend scallops with corn salsa and sumac sauce, followed by marinated pork with parsnips, grilled courgettes and roasted vegetables, and for dessert she will present a chocolate and raspberry mousse.
