LOCAL girl Amy Clancy has been playing fairy god-mother for brides-to-be for the past five years, now her own dream has come true as she was awarded the best bridal retailer in Scotland.

LA Bridalwear, on Channel Street in Galashiels scooped the prestigious accolade at a glittering award ceremony at Glasgow's Crown Plaza on Sunday night – and 27-year-old Amy is still in shock from her win.

“I honestly can't believe it,” she said. “It's such an amazing thing to have won and I am so happy, it still hasn't sunk in yet.

“To win in a category where there are massive bridal chains with huge shops in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and something like 16,000 Facebook followers compared to my 1,600 – I can't even describe how happy I am.

“Thanks a million to everyone who voted and to my amazing customers.”

The Confetti Awards celebrate the very best in Scotland's wedding industry, from make-up artists, and photographers to cake designers. And the Peebles girl said she almost felt like a small fish in a big pond.

LA Bridalwear cruised into the top 10 after it was hailed by customer votes, a mystery shopper, and an elite judging panel. Thrilled to even have came that far, Amy didn't expect to bag the top spot.

“The two runners up were announced and I thought oh well, that's that, I was so thrilled even to have been in the top 10. But then when they called the name I could not believe it, I was too shocked to even cry. My mum cried though.

“I am just so over the moon, we celebrated big after that, my mum, my boyfriend and I - lots of champagne!”

“I love my job so much, every day is different and it's an amazing feeling to know you've just helped make someone's day really special.

“Let's be honest, the bride's dress is the most important part!” Amy joked.

“I think you get something at LA Bridalwear that you don't get at bigger stores – it's very personal experience that you don't get in big cities.

“I can't wait to find a place for the award in my shop, it's my pride and joy!"

This week is doubly exciting for the young entrepreneur as she gets ready to welcome a new collection to her store –a range of exclusive 'Mother of the Bride' outfits, adding more oomph to her already highly successful portfolio.
