THE 18-year-old girl who died in a two-car crash last week was described as "a beauty inside and out."

Lisa Bahmani, from Hawick, was killed and two pensioners injured in the accident on the A68, near Lilliardsedge Caravan Park last Wednesday.

Her mother, Birgit Bahmani, said: "Lisa was a beauty inside and out, I really don't know how to live without her."

Lisa was driving a Hyundai Getz which collided with a Suzuki Ignis.

She sustained serious injuries and was taken to Borders General Hospital, where she later died.

In a statement, Lisa's family said: "Lisa was a much-loved daughter, sister and friend. She was a special loving girl who loved animals. Lisa will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

"We are grateful for all the messages of support."

Lisa, who is originally from Munster in Germany but lived in Hawick, was studying animal care at the Borders College.

The college have also paid their tributes to the young girl: "It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of one of our Animal Care students, 18-year-old Lisa Bahmani.

"Our sincere condolences go out to Lisa’s family, friends and fellow students at this extremely difficult time."

And Lisa’s Course Tutor, Karen Cairney, added: “Lisa was a wonderful young lady who played an active part in college life both as an Animal Care student and as a class representative. Lisa was hardworking and always had a smile on her face which brought joy to her fellow students. She will be sadly missed by us all.”

The College is offering support to both students and staff who have been affected by this tragedy.

The 71-year-old female driver of the Ignis is in a serious but stable condition at Borders General Hospital.

The 78-year-old man is being treated for a chest injury, however, it is not thought to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for 10 hours after the accident which happened at around 8pm.

Police Scotland have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Sgt Neil Inglis said: "Tragically this collision has resulted in the death of a young woman and the driver of the other vehicle remains in a very serious condition in hospital.

"We are continuing with our investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and would urge any motorists who were on the A68 at around 8pm on Wednesday, April 13, to contact us immediately if they witnessed the incident.

"In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this inquiry should also get in touch."
