BORDERERS will have a lucky Friday the 13th when they get to fly high as their favourite superheroes.

Radio Borders' Super Hero Day is held each year to raise money for local charity Cash for Kids.

The day of capes and masks will raise money for children with special needs within the broadcast area of the radio station.

Radio Borders presenters will be out and about with their microphones on the day, highlighting the most original ideas and celebrating the support the community gives.

Radio Borders charity manager Candy Rafferty said: “It's a chance for everyone across the region to reveal the Superhero in them and make a real difference to local kids who need a helping hand.”

Across the region offices, businesses, schools and individuals are joining forces to support superhero day.

Already signed up is Bourne Leisure, who encouraged their holiday makers to abseil down the 175ft Haggerston Castle Tower recently.

Envy Hair in Hawick, the Jammy Coo in Lilliesleaf, Boots the Chemist in Jedburgh and schools from Peebles to Eyemouth are looking forward to the day.

Candy added: “This year, the funds raised will start a lending library of books, games, toys and equipment for the newly opened local National Autistic Society support group here.

"We also want to provide a day of adventure and achievement for our children on the autistic spectrum at a specialist centre in Kielder.”

Cash for Kids raised £17.9 million nationally in 2015 and supported over 500,000 sick and underprivileged children in local communities across the UK.

Last year's Radio Borders Super Hero Day raised an amazing £577,899 for kids who need a helping hand in the Borders.

Every penny raised stays in the community in which it was raised.
