A PRIORSFORD Primary pupil has smashed her fundraising target of £500, to raise money for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation.

Rosie Dickson, who is nine, has managed to rack-up an incredible £945 with her friend Megan Stuart, by taking part in a sponsored mile-long swim in Dunfermline this Sunday.

Rosie decided to take on the challenge after Megan, who has has Coeliac disease, was helped by the charity.

And the pair want to do their bit to get new HD endoscopes for the Gastroenterology department.

Proud mum Lynn told the Peeblesshire News: “We are extremely proud of her. They are really good friends and get along really well.

“I went to school with Megan’s mum and our daughters have really hit it off.”
Ten-year-old Megan, who lives in Dunfermline, was diagnosed with the disease five years ago which has led to her having trouble digesting her food.

Lynn added: “Megan was diagnosed in June 2011 and she is much better now.

“But her initial symptoms were severe abdominal pain, vomiting and being significantly underweight.

“It is difficult for her as she has to take different food to parties for example. She has been through a really turbulent time with it.”

Lynn also said Rosie wanted to help “give something back” to the foundation, which has helped her friend.

“She told me that she realises that there are less fortunate people in the world and she says she wants to give something back.

“They’re planning to do a mile between them, which works out at 64 lengths.

“We’re really pleased with what we’ve made for the cause. When it was first set up, she raised £500 without donations from the family.”
