ST Ronan’s Silver Band from Innerleithen finished seventh in the second section at the Scottish Brass Band Championships at the weekend.

The group, conducted by Alan Fernie, put in a strong performance of the test piece Rhapsody in Brass at the event in the Perth Concert Hall on Saturday.

Chairman David Lindsy told us: “We are very proud of all our players, particularly the large number of youngsters, some of whom were playing their first contest with the band. It was a great experience for all concerned.”

The group is now looking forward to the Spring Concert which will be held on Saturday, April 22 in the Memorial Hall, Innerleithen, where the band will share the programme with the Scottish Borders Youth Brass Band.

Elsewhere, Peebles Burgh Silver Band produced a credible performance in the third section of the Scottish Silver Band Finals in Perth.

Performing Darkwood by Dan Price, the silver band, conducted by Stephen Baird, came in an applaudable eighth place.
