DRIVERS across Peeblesshire could face a fine of up to £1,000 for driving with an out-of-date licence. 

UK driving licence holders must renew their driving licence every 10 years through the DVLA. 

Drivers caught with an out-of-date licence can face fines of up to £1,000. 

The expiry date on a driving licence can be found on section 4B of your photocard licence. 

The DVLA does not automatically issue renewed licences. 

Motorists receive a written reminder to renew their licence at a cost of £17 every decade. This service is free for over 70s. 

Martin Williams revealed on the ITV programme This Morning that over 2.2 million drivers in the UK have an out of date licence and are currently unaware.
