PETROLHEADS embarking on a 2,500-mile drive across the UK for charity have made a pit stop in Peeblesshire.

Spanning over three days, the drivers got behind the wheel of some of the world’s best cars for the Cannonball Ireland Lions Tour.

The 50-strong Irish group set off for the charity event from Dublin on Friday, March 24 and toured down to the Lake District in Cumbria and to the set of ITV’s Emmerdale in Yorkshire before venturing up to Scotland to stop off in Peeblesshire on Sunday, March 26.

A convoy of supercar brands such as; Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche and Bentley roared into Cringletie House near Peebles for lunch at the Castle Hotel and to step out in the spring sunshine.

Event Organiser Niamh said: “We chose the Cringletie because of its reputation for quality which is what the owners of Supercars are always looking for and it lived up to all our expectations. It was brilliant to stop off in this beautiful area of Scotland for our charity event.”

Jeremy Osborne, manager of the Cringletie Hotel told the Peeblesshire News: “We felt privileged to have this renowned group choosing to dine with us and playing car park attendant to cars such as these was a great experience – especially with no bumps as they parked all-round the house”.

Named after the famous 1981 comedy featuring Hollywood movie stars; Burt Reynolds, Jackie Chan and Roger Moore, the Cannonball Run saw the group form to start a cross country race across America.

Now in its seventh annual event, the event takes a different route each year and has raised over 850,000 euro for Irish children’s charities. A range of gleaming supercars, wacky fun cars and monster wheels have taken part, with the drivers, nicknamed ‘Cannonballers’ also dressing up and adding a splash of colour for the journey.
