SOME of the biggest names in music took to the Ex Servicemen's stage last weekend.

Abba, Elkie Brooks, Amy Winehouse, Shakin' Stevens, Annie Lennox and Thin Lizzy were all on the bill.

Even Peter Kay and Mr Blobby made an appearance during the fun-packed evening.

And they all managed to raise over £1000 for both the Callants Club and the town's hockey club.

A total of ten acts performed at this year's Stars in their Eyes fundraiser in front of a packed clubrooms.

Following lengthy deliberations from the judges, the winner was eventually announced as Jim Houten for his stunning performance of Human as Rag And Bone Man.

But the real winner on Saturday evening was the two good causes who share £2107.50.

Stars in their Eyes organiser Layla Anderson, who is manager of the Ex Servicemen's Club, told the Peeblesshire News: "The show was absolutely amazing and I can't thank the acts enough for their efforts.

"The crowd were greatly entertained throughout the whole evening.

"Thank you to all who helped make this night as brilliant as it was, all who donated, worked behind the scenes and those who came along and supported the evening. The turn out was amazing."

Peebles Hockey has been on song for the past few seasons as the women's team gained back to back promotions.

And the men's team are also punching above their weight.

The cash from Saturday's fundraiser will be used towards purchasing a new goalkeeper's kit.

Peebles Callants Club will also put the money to good use by brightening up an area of Victoria Park.

The volunteers will plant spring bulbs from the area next tot he zebra crossing up to the day care centre. Planting is planned for October and November.

Layla added: "It's great to choose local organisations and see the benefits being put back into the town."

As well as the 10 acts performing on Saturday, the organisers also held a prize raffle.

And professional singer David Donelly Kay provided the entertainment for the aftershow party.
