PLANS are gearing up for a new bid to put the brakes on speedsters in Peebles.
Last Thursday’s meeting of the town’s community council, PC Diane Sorrell unveiled plans for 30mph signs for residents living beside main roads to stick on their wheelie bins.
It is hoped the initiative will raise awareness of the speed limits across the area and help improve the attitude and behaviour of drivers.
PC Sorrell said: “The signs will be able to be purchased for £1.50 each, and will act as a safety reminder to drivers.
“They should be used very sparingly and in the right locations in order to have some impact.
“I’m still waiting for details of the printer who can produce the signs, and more details on how to buy these will be released in due course.”
The move follows the launch of a similar initiative to combat speeding in West Linton last month.
As the Peeblesshire News reported, the village’s community council purchased 30mph stickers for residents living along the A702 to apply to their wheelie bins.
Some 20mph signs were also distributed to the houses around primary school in the village
