THE Peeblesshire Federation of SWI has celebrated 100 years in the Peebles Hydro Hotel.

A total of 93 Members attended the special afternoon tea on Sunday, July 9 and were treated to delicious sandwiches, scones, cakes and other fancies.

Despite the news that the Silver Band could not attend, a good blether was had with all members.

Vivienne Aitchison, president, gave a speech about how the “Rural” started in Longniddry, East Lothian by a farmer’s wife, Catherine Blair, who began the MakMerry Pottery which became very famous and helped women into the working world.

Mrs Blair’s two prominent themes were, “if you know something good pass it on” and also “deeds not words”.

The group would like to thank the staff at the Peebles Hydro Hotel for serving the afternoon tea and also the Federation Committee for organising the event.

Vice-president Ann Hutchinson also gave the vote of thanks.
