TWEEDDALE MP David Mundell has thanked his supporters and volunteers for lending a hand in his General Election campaign.

The Secretary of State for Scotland was re-elected as member for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale on June 8, with an increased majority.

And last Friday, Mr Mundell presented gifts to former Tweeddale Conservative councillors Keith Cockburn and Gavin Logan and paid tribute to Walkerburn resident Molly McIntosh, for her support.

He told the Peeblesshire News: “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to present gifts to now former councillors Keith Cockburn and Gavin Logan who dedicated themselves throughout their terms to improving the lives of people across Tweeddale.

“I found both Keith and Gavin to be a terrific help to me as the local MP in terms of casework and also pushing for improvements to our roads and public services in Tweeddale.

“I was very sorry to see them step down from their roles as they have been terrific servants for their constituents in Tweeddale West and Tweeddale East respectively and I wanted to show my appreciation by giving them a gift at my election celebration.

“I wish them all the best for the future and it has been a real pleasure to work with them both.”

Mr Mundell also paid tribute to Ms McIntosh’s boundless energy.

He added: “As I said thank you to my volunteers and supporters from Tweeddale, I was delighted that one of my most staunch supporters, Molly McIntosh was able to join us.

"Molly is a remarkable character and the energy she has for a woman of 98-years-old certainly keeps me going as well.

“And I hope that if I’m lucky enough to live that long, I have even half of Molly’s energy.

“It was fantastic to see her in such good form on Friday night and I always enjoy being in Molly’s company.”
