AROUND 140 children were entertained at the annual Chattabox holiday club last week.

Held at St Andrews Leckie Church in Peebles, primary school pupils turned out in force to make the most of the final week of their summer holidays.

And the youngsters were treated to a range of games, activities, stories, drama performances, singing, aerobics and much more.

The club is run by volunteers from all of the churches in the town and each year a special theme is picked. This year, the children told the story of Joseph and his multi-coloured coat, and the church hall was transformed into an Egyptian desert.

Barry Hughes said: “Chattabox is one of the biggest church holiday clubs in Scotland and one of only a handful which runs all day. The hours are designed to mirror school hours and help get children back into school routine.

“Families joined us on Friday evening to see highlights of what we had been doing all week.

“This year the adult leaders were joined by around 30 teenagers – mostly Peebles High School pupils – who helped to lead the club during the day, and for whom there were organised activities and a meal each evening.

“Chattabox holiday club is truly reaching out to children of all ages across the town. ”
