BAD news for those attending the Beltane celebrations in Peebles tonight, the Fording of Tweed has been cancelled due to safety concerns.

In a statement, organisers of the Peebles Beltane Festival said: “This is not a decision that has been taken lightly but having taken advice from various partners, the depth and speed of flow of the river, together with the fact that marshals and divers cannot see the bottom of the river, has left us with no option but to cancel the event.

“The fording at Dalatho is also cancelled for the same reasons.“

The route of the cavalcade will now change as follows: Once horses have come through South Parks, they will continue down South Park Road onto Caledonian Road, Tweed Bridge, Port Brae, Old Town, Young Street, Rosetta Road and up to the Race Course.
