VISITORS to Potmore Gardens near Eddleston raised more than £2,500 for charity recently.

Almost 200 people turned out for the ‘Open Garden Evening’ to give their backing to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Despite the blustery winds and constant threat of rain, the group made the most of the event – enjoying live music and woodland walks.

Alison Wilson, secretary of the Macmillan Cancer Support Peeblesshire Fundraising Group told us: “While the wind destroyed two temporary gazebos, the beautiful gardens were untroubled.

“And the Victorian glasshouses became a cosy gathering point for those who wandered beyond the splendid canvas dome erected for the occasion on the old tennis court.

“Entertained by music from InChorus, Nomad Beat and the Gerard Dott Trio, the almost 200 visitors enjoyed Prosecco and canapes while exploring the water garden and woodland walk – and having a flutter on the raffle.

“The evening raised more than £2,500, which is a sizeable contribution to the charity’s work. Macmillan’s Peeblesshire Group is indebted to Mr and Mrs David Reid of Portmore for allowing the use of their gardens, to the staff for their help, and to Atlas Domes for the sturdy structure that withstood the return to a normal Scottish summer.”
