LINTON Hotspur have been formally accepted into the East of Scotland Football Association (EoSFA) league structure in an historic moment for the club.

They will take part in the Division Three next season.

“It was taken to further develop our pathway for players at the wider club to aspire to and support.

"We hope you can support us in our growth and development and once again we would like to thank everyone for their efforts and continued support, it wouldn't be possible without you all.

“It’s exciting times ahead for the club and one we are really looking forward to.

“The journey is just the beginning and if you would like to get involved please email us on enquiries@lintonhotspurfc.co.uk"

A spokesperson for the East of Scotland Football Association said: “Delighted to have Linton Hotspur on board after member clubs voted at the AGM to welcome them into the East of Scotland scene.

“Clearly a club with a vision who've come a long way in a relatively short space of time.

“Wishing all involved with the West Linton club the very best of fortune going forward and look forward to seeing them progress.”

Hotspur will face Borders derbies against Hawick Royal Albert and will face West Lothian clubs Harthill Royal, Livingston United, Stoneyburn, Fauldhouse United, Bathgate Thistle, Pumpherston, West Calder United, Lochgelly Albert and Edinburgh United.

Hotspur are one of the Borders' oldest amateur clubs having been formed around 100 years ago.

The club disbanded in 1971 after a heavy 12-2 defeat to Ferranti FC who went on to to become Meadowbank Thistle, who in turn be came Livingston.

Thereafter they could not raise a team and remaining funds were contributed to other community projects.

In October 2008 a meeting was called in the Gordon Arms Hotel to gauge the interest locally in resurrecting Linton Hotspur. From that date onwards the committee, spurred on by the traditions and history associated with the village alike, have not looked back.

Currently the club operate at both youth and senior sections, with around 140 members in total ranging from age four through to the senior squad.

They have teams playing competitively at four, seven and 11-a-side within the Academy section and the senior team competed in the Edinburgh and Lothians Amateur League.
