HUNDREDS of people have agreed that a planned wind farm near Peebles is in a good location.

Of those who completed survey forms, at least 400 backed the proposed location of Belltown Power’s 13-turbine Leithenwater Wind Energy Hub.

The figures were revealed during a presentation at a meeting of Peebles Community Council (PCC) last Thursday.

Belltown Power’s Ellie Baker said: “It is expected that the Environmental Impact Assessment will be completed in March and a planning application will go to the Scottish Government’s energy consents unit, and we would expect a decision in late 2025.”

PCC chairman Peter Maudsley said he had been impressed by the Leithenwater exhibition last year and was in favour.

Ms Baker also reiterated the figures about community benefit, which have previously been spoken about at other community council meetings.

Ms Baker said: “The community benefit per annum, based on generation of 85.8 mega watts of electricity, is £420,000 for the 40-year expected life of the wind farm, to be shared by the communities of Eddleston, Peebles and Innerleithen.”
