AN OPENING event is planned next Wednesday (March 27) for the £20,000 steel teen shelter in Victoria Park.

Starting at about 1.15pm there will be a short ceremony and organisers hope Peebles High School pupils and staff as well as councillors, Scottish Borders Council officers and the police will attend.

At Peebles Community Council (PCC) last Thursday Malcolm Bruce said: “The money is a direct injection into the young people of Peebles.

“They asked for a shelter and have got one.”

PCC member and high school pupil Lennox Lovell-Henderson said: “Everyone is happy to see they are being listened to and it is being put in place, it will be a success in years to come.”

Tweeddale East councillor Julie Pirone said: “We have chosen a steel shelter that is virtually indestructible and I look forward to youngsters getting their spray paint out to do a bit of artwork.”
