AS summer gives way to autumn and the landscape begins to change colour Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre hosts an exhibition of knitted textiles inspired by the Scottish Borders countryside.
‘Before the Fall’ is designer Frances Teckkam’s first solo exhibition after working in the Scottish and UK textile industry for over 30 years. Based in Hawick, Frances began designing and making handmade craft textiles in 2012.
Frances said: “Since my introduction to knitting as a student I have been intrigued by the transformation that comes from knitting yarns into fabrics and garments. I like to experiment with the effect of colour on pattern and pattern on colour. For this collection of work I have taken inspiration from the Borders countryside, drawing on the colours and patterns I see around me as the seasons change. The central pieces are robes developed from the idea of traditional and ceremonial garments such as kimonos.” ‘Before the Fall’ is open daily in the visitor centre Gallery from 10am to 5pm until Thursday, October 2.
Harestanes Centre Manager Michael Scott said: “Frances Teckkam’s textile work is both vibrant and subtle. The colours and patterns that she uses are harmonious and attractive, reflecting the familiar tones of the Scottish Borders countryside.”
