THE beginning of this year’s term was a busy time for Eddleston Primary School pupils.

The highlight was Terracotta Warriors, a short opera the children performed with the help of Scottish Opera.

The School’s Primary 3-7 pupils had begun rehearsing the songs weeks before with the school’s music teacher, Mrs Mulholland, before four performers from Scottish Opera came and worked on movement and actions with the children.

This is the first time that Scottish Opera have worked with children as young as primary 3. The culmination of all this work was an excellent performance to parents, family and friends. P5 parent Pam Smellie said: “We were amazed at the standard of the children’s performance. Everyone really enjoyed it.” Fresh from their operatic success, the children and teachers hosted a 'Flash of Tartan’.

Led by the Primary 7 pupils, this Scottish evening showcased to family and friends the work the school’s P1-7 pupils had done on Scottish poetry, art and drama.

The Primary 7’s Tuckshop Enterprise provided refreshments for the evening, all with a Scottish flavour. The audience enjoyed hearing the children recite their Scottish Poems as well as musical performances and the opportunity to show off their skills in drama.

Parents Mr and Mrs Sinclair provided music with the accordion and drums for some great Scottish dancing.

Teacher Mrs Taylor said: “The night was a great success. Well done especially to the Primary 7 pupils for organising it.”
