A BILL for repairing Borders road damaged by the construction of the railway is about to land in the lap of main contractors BAM Nuttall.

It is being drawn up by Scottish Borders Council, custodians of the region's ailing network of 3,000km of non-trunk roads, along with 900km of footways and 1,200 bridges.

Councillor Gordon Edgar, executive member for roads and infrastructure, told a council meeting that the main civil engineering works for the railway were at an end.

"Council officers have now completed detailed survey work to ascertain the extent of extraordinary roads damage arising from the rail works," he said.
