THE general manager of a leading Borders restaurant is toasting his latest book - which is all about wines.

Mark Slaney, of the Horseshoe Restaurant with Rooms at Eddleston, has produced Tasting Notes.

The book is a blend of recollections of the author’s time as a commerccal wine buyer and an insider’s list of wines that are great to drink without carrying extortionate price tags.

Tasting Notes is worth checking out for anyone who loves good wine, knows something of the subject and wants to get off the beaten track in their quest for finding decent wines that are affordable and pleasurable.

The author, who has produced fiction in the name of Mark MacDuff, writes in a chatty but informative way and provides an insightful guide for finding wines today that are amongst the best in the world and yet remain known only to a few.
