THE award-winning visitor attraction, and conservation and education charity, the Scottish Seabird Centre, has launched its 2015 photography competition.

The Scottish Seabird Centre Nature Photography Awards are in their tenth year and outstanding Borders’ photographer, Graham Riddell, is on the judging panel.

Graham has been involved with the competition since the inaugural year. He specialises in landscape and nature photography and his striking portfolio has been published in Scottish Life magazine in the USA, D&G Life magazine, the Visit Southern Scotland website and is used extensively on the regional Tweed Valley website: he has exhibited in locations across Scotland and London. Graham will sit on the judging panel with Scottish Field editor, Richard Bath, and award-winning nature photographer, Lorne Gill.

Graham said: “The number of entries for the Scottish Seabird Centre’s Nature Photography Awards continues to rise and is always of a very high standard, with many juniors showing great promise. With it being the 10th year I’m sure the competition will, once again, be hotly contested. With a range of categories to enter there is something for all budding photographers.

“I would encourage all ages and abilities who have a passion for wildlife, landscape or the environment to enter – and I look forward to seeing some amazing pictures from talented Borders’ photographers!” For the anniversary year, the Scottish Seabird Centre has introduced two new categories. To celebrate the Year of Food & Drink, the Centre has introduced Nature’s Foragers where entrants are invited to consider our natural larder and how different species engage with it. The challenge will be to compose an image that can say something about the diversity of natural provisions available or the canny way some wildlife find their lunch.

The deadline for entries is Sunday, October 18. Following this, the judges will meet to decide on a shortlist in each category. The shortlist will then be on display from November 20 in the Seabird Centre.
