TRAQUAIR Medieval Fayre celebrates its 10th anniversary with a superb line up of medieval entertainment in the magical grounds of Scotland’s oldest inhabited house The centrepiece event at Traquair House on the wineglass lawn will be a Tournament, the Medieval Olympics of its day, with teams of knights engaging in ongoing contests throughout the day, involving combat displays and chivalrous competitions.

On the main grassed avenue there will be spectacular jousting and equestrian skills displayed by the group, Les Amis d’Onno, and a new feature is Deerhound Lure coursing, organised by the Deerhound Society, which will involve over 20 dogs racing throughout the day.

Falconry displays will take place in front of the house with a large array of falcons, owls and a raven on display all day as well as storytelling in the grounds with Mistress Quill.

In the old Walled Garden you can step back into the past and visit authentic medieval traders, see living history demonstrations, including green wood working, blacksmith’s forge, basket making and much more. You can have a go at longbow archery and listen to wandering minstrels while children can enjoy jester shows, take part in sword and helmet-making workshops and get dressed as mini knights and damsels.

If your interest is in early music, there will be also be a concert of music from the Stuart Court in the Traquair Chapel during the afternoon with accomplished musician and lute player James Akers together with countertenor James Laing.

Good food, a hog roast and a Traquair Fayre Ale make the ambience complete.
