HARD working volunteers at an older people's lunch club in Innerleithen were allowed to put their feet up last Friday.

Members of Innerleithen Rotary served up a festive feast for all the service users and voluntary staff during a Christmas Party in the Memorial Hall.

Around 25 three-course dinners were served up during the lunch-time celebrations.

Cleo Binns, who is manager of the RVS service in both Innerleithen and Peebles, said: "Normally it's our hard-working volunteers who serve up the lunches each week but for Christmas the Rotary members offered to do everything for us.

"They cooked, served and even did the washing up.

"It was a lovely gesture and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves."

St Ronan's Primary School choir provided entertainment ahead of the Christmas lunch.

And there were party games and carol signing throughout the afternoon.

Around a dozen service users enjoy the RVS socials every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in Innerleithen, where they play games and enjoy a two-course lunch.

And a similar number attend at the RVS service in Peebles each day.

But the service in both towns is in need of more volunteers.

Cleo added: "We have a great team of volunteers already at Innerleithen and Peebles but we are always looking for a few more.

"We are especially short of drivers just now. If there is anyone who could spare a few hours to drive our service users to and from the centres, it would be much appreciated."

Peebles RVS party was held on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Both centres will be closed from the end of this week for a festive fortnight.
