THERE was a double celebration in an Innerleithen household as a pair of twins learned they would have an important part to play in their town’s historic summer festival.

Ally Norman, 11, was revealed as St Ronan’s Primary School’s Dux Boy and will represent Saint Ronan in Innerleithen’s Cleikum Ceremonies during Games Week.

And his two minutes younger brother Robbie will represent Primary Seven at the long-awaited event.

It was a dream come true for Ally who will have many duties to perform during the festivities. Joining him will be Ruby Finn as the Dux Girl.

“It’s exciting and I feel quite overwhelmed,” said Ally, who is a member of the town band and a keen footballer. “My mum Lyn and dad Keith are going to be really proud with both me and Robbie involved.” Ruby, 12, who has a younger sister, Cerys, and brother, Lenny, at the school, said: “I wasn’t expecting this at all. I feel shocked and quite overwhelmed - there are so many other people who are deserving of this. It is going to be nerve-wracking and a little scary but I am sure it will also be good fun.” Ally and Ruby will represent the school at Games Week along with P2 pupil Ian Campbell as the Lantern Bearer and Monks and Sash Girls from each year group.

They as follows - Primary Three: Sash Girls - Eilidh Irvine and Grace Turnbull; Monks - Aaron Glendinning and Taylor McMorran; Primary Four: Sash Girls - Sasha Lamb and Leah Currie; Monks - Aaron Currie and Ross Wood; Primary Five: Sash Girls - Holly Carr and Hallie Murray; Monks - Elliot Brydon and James Reynolds; Primary Six: Sash Girls - Lauren Hamilton and Robyn Keddie; Monks - Arron Blake and Angus Milne; Primary Seven: Sash Girls - Eleanor Smith and Anya Wilson; Monks - Alastair McNeill and Robbie Norman.

The announcements were made by headteacher Keith Belleville at a special assembly which was attended by Standard Bearer Elect David Forrest, his Lass Shannon Knox along with the supporters and officials from the Games committee.

“It is always a very difficult decision for my staff and me to choose a few pupils to take part every year, but we are heartened by the fact that Games Week is such an inclusive festival with lots of events for everyone,” said Mr Belleville.

“We are very proud of all the children here at St Ronan’s and send our best wishes to all principals taking part in this year’s Cleikum Ceremonies.” Games Week gets underway on Thursday, July 9 and runs until Saturday, July 19 with various events for all age groups.
