PRIORSFORD School showed their class last weekend at the Rotary Primary School Quiz Final

On Saturday a total of 13 Primary 7 teams from schools throughout the south-east of Scotland got their thinking caps on at the Lifestyle Centre in Carluke.

Well over 100 people friends and family cheered on the pupils as they competed for the honour of being crowned 2016-17 Rotary District 1020 Primary School Quiz Champions.

The competition started last September with 35 Rotary Clubs holding heats, involving about 130 schools, fielding over 500 children.

And it was Priorsford who represented the Borders with Melrose with the same quartet of Robin Dalgleish, Finn Colledge, Sam Turpie, and Charlie Franklin-White heading for the final.

Colin Mackay told the Peeblesshire News: "The final involved teams from Bathgate, Dumfries, Edinburgh, Kirkcudbright, Lanark, Linlithgow, Melrose, Shotts and Peebles, with every team acquitting themselves very well.

"Priorsford who convincingly won the Borders Area final, got off to a fantastic start.

"They were the only team who scored maximum points in the first two of the eight rounds which were out of six questions.

"They put in an excellent show and were always near the top of the scoreboard.

“Unfortunately they ended up in third place but still with a highly creditable 38 points out of a possible 48.”

The winning school was Pentland Primary from Oxgangs, Edinburgh, scoring 40½ points, closely followed up by Dean Park from Currie Balerno in 2nd, scoring 39½ and Priorsford in third.
