A PAINTER and decorator who reacted angrily when his partner received text messages from another man has been ordered to be of good behaviour for the next three months.

Robert Lundy, who is 35, appeared from custody at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Friday morning and admitted a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at their home in Leeburn Way, Cardrona, hours earlier.

Prosecutor Alasdair Fay said both parties had consumed alcohol and at 1am Lundy questioned his partner about text messages she was receiving from another man.

He added that when she gave an answer that he did not believe to be true he began shouting and swearing. A neighbour called the police.

Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said the couple had been together for the past five years and Lundy was not proud of the way he acted.

Sheriff Kevin Drummond said he was giving Lundy an opportunity to demonstrate he could behave himself in a domestic environment and deferred sentence until November 26 at Peebles Sheriff Court where he will be admonished if there was no further offending.
