A 74-YEAR-OLD man has made history by being the last ever accused to stand in the dock at Peebles Sheriff Court.

Richard Nichol appeared in private at Peebles Sheriff Court and faced two charges of possession and creation of indecent images of children.

The offences are alleged to have been committed at his home in the Parkdaill area of Hawick between 2003 and 2015.

He made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination.

The pensioner was released on bail by Sheriff Kevin Drummond.

It was the last ever case to be heard in the final sitting of Peebles Court which is being closed as part of a nationwide cost-cutting exercise.
