GUIDE Dogs Scotland, the charity supporting blind and partially sighted people, is recruiting volunteers in Peebles for its My Guide service.

My Guide is all about helping to get blind and partially sighted people out and about in their community.

And Guide Dogs is looking to recruit and train sighted volunteers to assist people with sight loss around Peebles.

“My Guide matches a person who is blind or partially sighted with a trained volunteer,” explained My Guide Ambassador Rosalind Wallace.

“It might mean working with your My Guide partner to set goals that increase their ability to get out and about, or taking part in social and leisure activities such as shopping, walking or a local coffee group.

“And in return you would make a real difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people, learn new skills to enhance your CV, make new friends, and give something back to your local community.” Training to volunteer for a My Guide Partnership takes around a day or two but will give you the skills to confidently guide blind and partially sighted people.

To volunteer for My Guide, you need to be over 18 and willing to have a criminal record check. Volunteering for My Guide tends to take around two to three hours a week at a flexible time to suit you.
