DAFFODILS are synonymous with cancer charity Marie Curie.

And Peeblesshire based egg producer Glenrath Farms planted 12 miles of them to brighten up the area earlier this year.

And collecting tins were left alongside them as part of the fundraising initiative.

Together they raised £526.43. And with the local business promising to double the donations the final total raised for Marie Curie was £1052.86.

Glenrath Farms chairman John Campbell and his granddaughter Kitty are pictured handing over a cheque to Georgina Seymour and Mrs McBain, local representatives of the charity, at Easter Happrew Farm, Stobo.

Mrs Seymour said: “I would like to thank you all for this very generous cheque. Your continuing support is very much appreciated by Marie Curie.

“Marie Curie gives people with all terminal illnesses the choice to die at home. Our nurses provide them and their families with free hands- on care and emotional support, in their own homes, right until the end.

“A Marie Curie nurse costs £20 an hour, so your cheque will give many hours of care. I would also like to say that all money raised in the Borders stays in the Borders. So once again a huge thank you.” It is hoped to repeat the fundraiser next spring.
