TWENTY local youngsters will be television stars tonight (Friday) as part of the BBC’s Children In Need programme.

The boys from West Linton Cub Scouts have been invited to the studios in Glasgow to join in the charity extravaganza, They have been collecting unwanted foreign coins for some time - and this tied in perfectly with this year’s BBC Children in Need Foreign Currency appeal.

They will hand over the foreign currency to Jackie Bird live on air.

The Cubs’ currency collection spans the world - with money from more than 70 countries including New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, Falkland Islands, New Caledonia, Iraq, UAE and Caribbean and African countries.

Calum Greenhow, the postmaster at West Linton, valued the collection at £508.

More funds were raised when some of the Cubs performed at the Follies variety show - they did a hilarious synchronised swimming routine - which cheered sell-out audiences across the three-night run.

The boys were stand-out colourful in their swim shorts, matching t-shirts and swim caps, and gave a polished performance.

The Follies is well known for supporting local charities and organisations - and they donated £150 to Cubs’ funds in return for the boys’ contribution to the show. The Cubs decided that they would like to also donate this money to Children in Need.

Cub leader Linda Gray said: “To be handing over a cheque to BBC Children in Need for £658 is a fantastic achievement for West Linton Cub Scouts.

“The boys are most excited to be making the trip to the BBC television studios in Glasgow and being part of the Children in Need live event.”
