Sir, It was with the greatest interest I read the story of the sale of Kingsmeadows Estate (Peeblesshire News, November 21).

I was very happy that Mr Mawer had pledged not to do anthing drastic, which would certainly have broken my heart. I was born there in October 1944. Some years ago I had a portrait photo taken in the grounds as a present for my mum.

My husband and had all our ruby wedding anniversary photos taken there and chose one outside the house to be framed and now hangs on our sittingroom wall.

Many years ago when Adam and Heather, friends of ours, were caretakers and invited my mum and I for coffee so mum could tell them all about the house during the war. I saw the room I came into the world in and what was a ward where I spent the first days of my life.

When I walk up and down Kingsmeadows Road I always look over at the window which you can see from the road. Having lived in Glensax Road for 42 and a half years, I have always been thrilled to live so near my birth place.

It always has and always will have a special place in my heart.

I am, etc.
