PEEBLES Ams brushed aside a workmanlike Bowholm side at a wet Canonbie on Saturday.

Missing several first team regulars a threadbare Ams squad missing manager Barry Thomson, with Sean Taylor taking over the reins for this Collie Cup tie still had too much for an in form Bowholm side.

After a scrappy opening period Ams took control when Entwistle couldn’t fail to slot home after an impeccable Tiff Robertson pass. The Ams doubled their lead when new signing Shearlaw continued his excellent form with a beautifully taken goal to put the Peebles side two ahead; the Ams’s hi-tempo passing game giving them a well deserved advantage.

Bowholm gradually came back into the game and threatened to breech the Ams defence with some well-directed set plays that goalkeeper Murphy and defenders Brown and McDonald dealt with resolutely.

As the second half progressed the Ams asserted their authority utilising the pace of wingers Gorrie and Taylor. Substitute King coolly slotted home the third after showing the Bowholm defence a clean pair of heels. The Ams could have added to their total with young striker McGrath twice cruelly denied a goal by some excellent goalkeeping.

Peebles Ams: Murphy, McDonald, Robertson, McDonald, Taylor, Muir, Entwistle, Inglis, Gorrie, Shearlaw & Graham. Subs: McGrath & King.
