PEEBLES LADIES 4

PEEBLES travelled to Peffermill on Saturday for their second league game of the season hoping to make it two wins out of two.

With a slightly smaller squad than the previous week Peebles knew it was going to be a tough game with no substitutes available against a young, fit Uni team who had a full squad of 16.

Peebles started the stronger and took control right from the off.

The first goal came after ten minutes when Sarah Glendinning took a quick self pass in the opposition's 23, drove into the circle and struck the ball into the corner of the goal.

Peebles increased their lead when Glendinning dragged the ball across goal to find Karris Sharp waiting to deflect the ball over the line.

The home side mounted a few attacks but the Peebles defence stood firm.

And just before half time Jo Cook, for the second week in a row, struck the ball perfectly from a penalty corner to give Peebles a 3-0 lead.

Confidence was high and the second half started in similar fashion to the first but Peebles were soon reduced to ten when their captain Glendinning was struck in the mouth by the ball and had to go to hospital.

With no subs to call on Peebles were a player down for the final 20 minutes but they remained unfazed with the side digging deep and playing for each other. Great team spirit and fight saw Peebles extend their lead when Cook scored her second of the afternoon.

The club would like to thank sponsors Thomson Gray Construction Consultants and JRD Motors for supplying the ladies with new strips.

Thanks also to Stuart Lobb for umpiring.
