PEEBLES Rovers manager John O'Hara believes last week's flooding is proof that football needs a new home in the town.

As well as the East of Scotland team's clubrooms, storage facilities belonging to the youth teams were also engulfed throughout last Wednesday.

O'Hara's club is backing a bid for a new 3G facility at Victoria Park.

And he believes a move to higher ground is overdue.

John told us: "Last week's flooding was the second time in a month that Whitestone Park was under water.

"It is not only our team that is affected but the whole youth set up.

"If ever there was a reminder that we need to relocate to a 3G facility at a site which doesn't flood I think we got it last week."

Peebles are on the road tomorrow (Saturday) to face Coldstream in the league at Home Park.

A pitch inspection will be made first thing tomorrow morning following further storms this week.

O'Hara hopes the match will go ahead. He said: "Our aim is to finish as high up the league as we can - I believe we are capable of finishing in the top four, which is amazing when you think of where we were two years ago.

"We have four or five players back after our win over Craigroyston before Christmas. We know Coldstream will be difficult but we are getting close to full strength again."

Darren Walker, Dale Richardson, Jim Young and Johnny Flockhart all return to the Rovers squad.

But Lee Zavaroni and Charles McAleavy remain sidelined through injury, and Brendan Edwards is suspended.

Although Vale of Leithen's Victoria Park avoided any flood damage during Storm Frank, it has remained water-logged over the past week.

And tomorrow's match with Spartans remains in doubt.

General manager Mark Lamb said: "The park looks okay until you walk on it - it is saturated and the water isn't going anywhere.

"We'll do everything we can to get the game on but there will definitely be an inspection on Saturday morning."
