IT is one of the oldest race meetings in the country.

And the large crowd who flocked to the Golf Course enjoyed another evening of excitement.

The main Beltane Bell race was won by Jock Threadgall of Lauder.

The farrier held a four-length advantage at midway in the five-strong race, but he only held on by a neck at the line to lift the historic trophy, which was donated more than a century ago by exiled Peebleans in America.

Despite completing the Marches there was still plenty of speed left in the entrants' legs.

The confined race for the Ian Buick Rosebowl was even closer with Stuart Dodds from Peebles winning by a head.

A total of 11 ponies, of all sizes, lined up for George H Irvine Trophy.

And it was Abbie Philip from Innerleithen who led all the way to take victory by three lengths.

The Stewart Smith Trophy may only have been a two-horse race but it was nip and tuck all the way up the Golf Course track with Sasha Mitchell from Peebles winning by half-a-length.

A total of nine Ex-Cornets lined up to compete for the DB Wright Trophy.

Allan Beveridge, in his bright red colours, streaked up the outside to claim victory by a length.

Cornet Colin Dodds and his Lass Scarlett Potter presented the trophies.

A special certificate was also presented to Linda Hopkirk to mark her 50th riding The Marches.
