VALE manager Chris Anderson hopes his players will rise to the occasion on Sunday when they face the Premiership champions.

The Victoria Park boss was speaking ahead of his team's final warm up game of the pre-season against Celtic.

Anderson has seen his team win two and lose two of their previous pre-season games.

And he hopes his side can cause a shock against Brendan Rodgers' side for a confidence boost ahead of the Lowland League kicking off next weekend.

Chris told the Peeblesshire News: "Everyone is now back from holidays and we are all injury free so we're at full strength for the Celtic game.

"I've been reasonably pleased with the way things are going so far but it would be great for everyone at Vale if we could get a result on Sunday."

Celtic will face Leicester City tomorrow (Saturday) in the International Champions Cup.

And it is expected that Rodgers will send a squad of mainly Development players to the Borders.

Anderson added: "Celtic have such a large squad you never know who will be down.

"Whoever is here you know they will be good and are used to playing at a higher level than we are. But this the test we want before the Lowland League kicks off."

Almost 1400 fans packed into Victoria Park two seasons' ago when Alan Stubbs brought Hibernian to Innerleithen - a match which pulled the Lowland League club away from its financial problems.

And the Victoria Park general manager, Mark Lamb, hopes for another busy day with the arrival of Celtic.

He told us: "It is always a great occasion when you get one of the top teams in the country coming to play you.

"The Hibs game of two years ago was a fantastic day and we'd be delighted if we got a crowd anywhere close to that.

"We are indebted to Celtic for agreeing to the fixture and we're all hoping we can make a game of it."

Following the Victoria Park friendly Celtic will face Barcelona in the International Champions Cup while the club's Development team don't kick off their league campaign until August 23.

Sunday's match kicks off at 2pm.
