CHIRNSIDE co-manager Duncan Morrison hopes his team’s Border Cup final win is the start of a successful season for the Berwickshire team.

United failed to pick up any silverware last season but their young squad is currently top of Division A, with a number of other trophies to play for.

Morrison said: “A lot of this squad was in our Colts team two seasons ago and having that team has now paid off.”

Hawick United picked up the Wright Cup thanks to a hat-trick of penalties.

Hawick defeated Biggar United 4-0 at Peebles’ Kerfield Park, with Kevin Strathdee, Simon Philbin and Ross Scott all finding the net from the spot. Liam Lavery added the fourth as the Teries won their first Wright Cup for 23 years.

Hawick Waverley’s mini-revival continued as they smashed Tweedmouth Amateurs 9-3 in a goalfest at Wilton Lodge Park.

Jordan Yardley bagged a hat-trick, Aaron Smith and Luke Cooper notched two a piece, and Ross Cairns and Greg Ford completed the scoring for Waverley who have now won two Division A games in a row.

Tweedmouth’s goals came from Dean Powling, Stewart Thompson and a Davis Hope own goal.

West Barns Star moved three points behind top spot in Division A with a 7-1 thrashing of Langholm Legion.

Newtown remain joint-top of Division B but only after coming from behind to beat Gala Hotspur.

Stewart Robertson gave Spurs a half time lead but Russell Hunter’s second half double ensured Newtown claimed the points.

Kelso Thistle jumped above their opponents Linton Hotspur in Division B with a 3-1 win at Auchendinny.

Lauder’s promotion hopes are back on track after Jordan Steele claimed his second hat-trick in as many games in a 5-2 win over Duns Amateurs in Division C. Derek Stoddart and Cammy Moffat were also on target, with Stuart Anderson and Sean Robertson scoring for Duns, who had Grant Wilson sent off.

St Boswells moved into second with a 2-1 home win over Ancrum and Hawick Legion Rovers and Kelso Amateurs shared eight goals in a 4-4 draw.
