A LEE Hannan double helped Chirnside United strike what could be a decisive result in the Division A title race.

Hannan’s goals helped United win 4-3 at rivals West Barns Star, to give themselves a three point lead with two games in hand over the Dunbar side.

Gordon are now bottom of Division A after suffering a 7-4 defeat at Langholm Legion, coupled with Jed Legion and Tweeddale Rovers both winning.

Jed defeated Stow 2-1 thanks to Ashley Langford and an own goal, while Paul Young scored for the villagers who have now lost three of their last four games.

And Tweeddale won 3-1 at Tweedmouth Amateurs, with Nathan Mcdonald, Greig Shortreed and Grant Wilson finding the net.

Division B leaders Hawick Legion suffered a shock 4-3 loss at home to Biggar United, with Scott Duncan, Callum Hope and Sean Solley scoring for the Teries.

That allowed the chasing pack to close the gap, with Hawick United doing the business at home to Gala Hotspur with a 5-3 win.

Kevin Strathdee’s double along with goals from Robbie Kelly, Declan Hogg and Danny Bolton put United in control although Spurs regained some pride with strikes from Marcus Gordon, Stewart Robertson and Fraser Brown.

But Newtown lost their second league game in a row, going down 3-0 to Coldstream Amateurs. Darren Simpson scored two and Bailey Paterson a late third, while Stephen Swanston was sent off for Newtown.

Leithen Rovers looked doomed to relegation two weeks ago having not won a game all season.

But a win over Earlston Rhymers followed by a 4-2 victory at Linton Hotspur – with Dillon Rice scoring two – has given Rovers a chance.

They trail Gala and Earlston by one point, with the Rhymers losing 4-3 at Kelso Thistle.

Sean Robertson scored another two goals to add to his tally for the season as Duns Amateurs won 3-0 at Ancrum, who made the Division C leaders work for the three points.

There were also victories for St Boswells, Berwick Colts and Melrose in Division C.
